The Federal Ministry for Education and Research announced the call Pflanzenbiotechnologie

The challenges of the early 21st century are clear

• feeding an ever increasing population
• climate change
• an increasing demand for energy and ressources
• sustainability
• a changed consumer demand in developing countries as well as a health crisis in developed countries

The German Federal Ministry for Education and Research announced the call "Pflanzenbiotechnologie" to meet the global challenges.  Central to the call are three criteria:

• yield
• quality
• sustainability

The plant characteristic yield is one the most important fields for the research for the future. Yield means:

• increased yield (more biomass)
• yield stability (pest resistance)

The characteristic plant quality includes:

• healthy plant ingredients
• reducing allergens
• producing highly valuable products (pharmaceutics, polymers)
• optimising plant architecture

The term sustainabilty addresses:

• water- and nutrition-efficiency of plants
• use of biodiversity to minimise negative impacts of agriculture
• improve the neccessary plant protection measures

To address the challenges, the BMBF is particularly interested to invite new partners to take part in the new exciting programme GABI-innovativ.
